Tapping at Bagley
The RSOP program at UMD taps the maples over at Bagley park every year. I’ve already been out and tapped a couple of trees, and will be plugging the final spiles sometime this weekend.
The RSOP has a great program that teaches about the sugar bush and lets kids and adults get out and tap trees every year.
At my Field Interpretation class this week, we had a lesson on the sugar bush, and tasted some real maple syrup afterward. I was amused to see how some of the students, who have probably only ever had Mrs. Butterworth up to now, didn’t care for the real stuff. Me, I love it.
