The Outside World, In and Around Duluth

Sharp Shinned Hawk

My folks came home last weekend to find a sharpie having died, after crashing into one of their windows at high speed.

They have a lot of feeders, so the hawk probably saw some yummy looking songbird and came in for dinner, and wasn’t able to pull up in time. Poor thing. At least there wouldn’t have been any suffering.

Here are some pictures they took:

Apparently, it hit the window so hard, its beak is split right up the middle.

They asked me if I knew anyone at the university who would want it. Turns out the biology department was interested. They will have a student mount it, and then it will be used for education and identification.
