The Outside World, In and Around Duluth

White-Crowned Sparrow

This is new one for me. The bird book says that it’s one of the most studied birds around, but Duluth is strictly ‘passerine pass-over’ for this little guy. I’m guessing he’s heading up north for the summer, but our yard was a nice little stopover spot, apparently. Of interest is that they stay so close to their home group of birds that dialects will form, and so well-tuned ornithologists are able to tell where a bird is from.

Cool!
